Biography:
Saruman, appearing in Middle Earth lore, is a prominent figure in J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings*. He is first mentioned in *The Fellowship of the Ring*, though not seen directly at that time.
Initially head of the White Council and esteemed for his wisdom, Saruman was one of the Istari (Wizards) sent to Middle-earth to combat the threat of Sauron. He resided at Isengard.
Over time, Saruman became corrupted by his desire for power. He sought the One Ring for himself, betraying the free peoples of Middle-earth and forming his own army. He eventually allied himself with Sauron, though secretly intending to usurp him.
His ambition led to his downfall, culminating in his defeat and expulsion from the White Council. Reduced to a shadow of his former self, Saruman met his end at the hands of Grima Wormtongue in the Shire.
